Tip In

To tip in is to paste something into a publication so that it’s attached but not part of the binding. In the early days of fan publishing, it was the most common way to add photographs to fanzines. Sometimes art was added this way, too, such as color hectograph illos in a mimeographed fanzine.

Apahacks in particular have been known to tip-in various oddities to their apazines: bheer coasters, candy, seed packets, ktp.

The term comes from book publishing, where the technique was once commonly used for color plates, author signatures, maps and such.
