Lunacon 2016 was a convention held March 18–20, 2016, at the Hilton Westchester in Rye Brook, NY. The GoHs were Robert Sawyer, Rick Sternbach, and Naomi Novik. The filk group Murder Ballads was also honored as Music Guests.
Lunacon 2015, sponsored by the Lunarians was cancelled in November 2014, and in January 2015, it was announced that there would be a Lunacon in 2016 sponsored by a new organization, the Lunarians (2), and that Mark W. Richards had been chosen as chairman. Richards resigned in December 2015 and in January 2016, he was replaced by an executive committee of Mark L. Blackman, Stuart C. Hellinger and John William Upton.
Comprising roughly 700 members, an increase from the previous Lunacon, the convention offered a Masquerade, Consuite, readings, many discussion panels, Filk and other music performances, Dealers' Room, 24-hour Gaming room with over 200 games available, Art Show and Auction, Books and More Exhibit to benefit the Wollheim Scholarship Fund, Meet the Pros Party, shadowcasts including a Rocky Horror performance, a Leonard Nimoy Memorial Tribute (with showings of select Star Trek episodes and other media related to the actor), the Premiere of Mission to Mongo (a new fan re-cut of a classic Flash Gordon serial), Anime screenings, and unofficial-but-appreciated themed room parties at night, including a blacklight TRON party, a Fourth of July celebration, a High Tea soirée, and a Hot Sauce tasting.
