Hawkwind are a UK rock band formed in 1969. Their music is often described as 'space rock' and lyrics and titles draw on various sfnal themes and explicitly from the work of Michael Moorcock, Roger Zelazny, Philip José Farmer and Ray Bradbury. Moorcock has both performed with and written for the band.

In a specifically fannish context, vocalist and lyricist Robert Calvert participated in the poetry soiree at Tynecon 74, the 1974 Eastercon. Calvert and other members of the band performed as the Sonic Assassins at Channelcon, the 1984 Eastercon, and the full group performed on the Friday evening at Conspiracy '87, the 1987 Worldcon, where there set was largely based on the Elric stories by Moorcock.

When there's a floreat (Fl.), this indicates the time or times for which we have found evidence that the group existed. This is probably not going to represent the group's full lifetime, so please update it if you can!
