Doug Lacey
(???? – )
Doug Lacey was a UK fan active around 1960. He attended the BSFA Convention, 1960 where Archie Mercer writing in Cactus 5 described him enigmatically as "of Cheltenham (or London)". Ron Bennett's Directory of Science Fiction Fandom for 1960 is less enigmatic, putting him firmly in Ashford, then in Middlesex and now part of Surrey, and at least closer to London than Cheltenham. Lacey did however attend the Cheltenham "Valentine Convention", seemingly more of a party, in February 1960.
He made two appearances in Alan Rispin's collected quotes from the 1960 convention, as also cited in Cactus:
Yes, it's supposed to come off. That's why it's welded on!!! I get some taste out off this – even if it is just salt and pepper.
Dick Ellingsworth, writing many years later in Prolapse 9 (November 2007), also recalled Lacey at the convention:
The beautiful Tikwis Hall was also present but was being monopolised by another young fan, Doug Lacey. At some point, a group of us spirited her away from him, leaving him to wander the corridors, mournfully wailing, "Tikki? Where are you, Tikki?"
He was also listed as a member of the LXICON in 1961. Unusually for new fans of his generation, Lacey doesn't seem to have been a member of the BSFA.
