The spayed gerbil is a bright red fannish libation which is 1/3 Campari (a bitter Italian aperitif) and 2/3 Gin, stirred over ice and served straight up. It was invented by Joe Haldeman during Chambanacon in 1976, and favored by Mike Glicksohn and Ben Zuhl, among others. It featured in Larry Tucker's video Faans.

Mike said of it that it was the only drink in fandom that you could put down on a table at a room party, go off to the john, and come back to find untouched.

There's a story about it by Zuhl in Mimosa #17 p19.
