(Do you mean the early NYC club?)
Arisia is a volunteer run, non-profit convention that usually occurs in Boston in January on Martin Luther King jr weekend.
In keeping with the phrase "New England's largest and most diverse science fiction and fantasy convention", Arisia has Anime, Art Show, Dealers Room, Dances, Filking, Gaming, LARPs, Masquerade, Panels, Teen Lounge, Video Room, Workshops, ...
Arisia was founded in 1989 by five people from Western Massachusetts: Brian Cooper, Tom Fish, Mary Robison, Matthew Saroff, and Cris Shuldiner.
