Bids to host the 2023 Worldcon and Nasfic in Winnipeg, MB.

Initially, Winnipeg in '23 was an unsuccessful bid to host the 81st Worldcon from August 24–28, 2023, at the RBC Convention Centre Winnipeg and Delta Hotels by Marriott in Winnipeg, MB, Canada. The bid chair was Terry Fong of Montreal. Vice chairs were Robbie Bourget, Slough, UK, and Linda Ross-Mansfield, Winnipeg.

Worldcon[edit]

The Winnipeg bid didn’t exist at the time of the February 26, 2021, filing deadline, six months before the scheduled Discon III. When Discon III was moved to December because of Covid-19, Discon announced (correctly) that it would not re-open filing leaving Chengdu 2023 and Memphis in 2023 the only filed bids. But D3 underwent considerable upheaval in the subsequent months and Winnipeg was allowed to file on April 23. It lost to Chengdu on the first ballot in the 2023 Worldcon Site Selection.

NASFiC[edit]

Subsequently, it converted to a bid to hold the 2023 Nasfic opposite Chengdu. The committee and facilities remained the same. Its opposition was Orlando in 2023, which withdrew in August 2022, leaving Winnipeg unopposed in the 2023 NASFiC Site Selection at Chicon 8. The subsequent convention was announced as Pemmi-con 2023.
