Peter Watts is a Canadian SF author and marine-mammal biologist. He obtained a bachelor's of science degree in 1980 and a master's of science degree in 1983, both from the University of Guelph, Ontario, and a PhD from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, BC, in 1991. He married fellow Canadian author Caitlin Sweet in August, 2011.

He is known principally in the SF genre for his Rifters trilogy and his Firefall series of novels. A recent collection of his short fiction is Beyond the Rift (2013).

He has been GoH for four countries' Natcons: Australia, Canada, Finland, and Sweden.
