George Orson Welles was an American actor, director, writer, and producer who worked in theater, radio and film. was credited as the editor of Dell's mapback SF anthology, Invasion from Mars Interplanetary Stories (1949), one of the first science fiction paperbacks. He’s most famous stfnally for one of the most infamous events in the history of sf — as director and star of the notorious 1938 radio play The War of the Worlds, roughly based on H. G. Wells’ 1897 novel.

He is remembered for his innovative work in all three media, including Caesar (1937), a groundbreaking Broadway adaptation of Julius Caesar; and Citizen Kane (1941), consistently ranked as one of the all-time greatest films.
