Mike Zaharakis

(January 18, 1947 – July 6, 1984)

Michael George Zaharakis (aka Raki) was a fan active mainly in the 1960 and ’70s. He became a fan while stationed in the Air Force in Minot, North Dakota, where he married Dian Cooper. In Portland, Oregon, he was a founder of the Society of Strangers science fiction club. He was a member of ValAPA, TAPS, and the N3F, at one time serving on the N3F Directorate. He later moved to California, where he died.

Mike was a member of the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) and an ordained bishop in the Antiochian Orthodox Church. In 1970, he handled publicity for the week long, state-sponsored Vortex-1 music festival in McIver State Park near Escatada, Oregon.
