Mary Gnaedinger was editor of three SF and fantasy magazines in the 1930s-1950s: Famous Fantastic Mysteries (1939-1953), Fantastic Novels (1940-1951), and A. Merritt's Fantasy Magazine (1949-1950).

She conducted "The Readers' Viewpoint" column in Famous Fantastic Mysteries and the "What Do You Think" column in Fantastic Novels.

There is evidence that she was once a member of the New York Futurians. Her son, Art Gnaedinger was also a fan.
