H. W. Scott

(1897 -- 1977)

Artist Harold Winfield Scott was named after his relative, General Winfield Scott of the Mexican-American War.

His artwork appeared in many of the pulp magazines of the 1930s-1940s, including The Avenger, Doc Savage, and Unknown. He taught art at Pratt Institute, and Edd Cartier was one of his students. After the pulps, he sold artwork to slick magazines, Dell paperbacks, and Western comic books.
