A fan who was at one time a member of NESFA and WSFA. He was an apahack, writing for APA-NESFA, Minneapa, APA-Q (Pun City) and CAPrA (Damfino).
His first convention was Pacificon II. He edited the MITSFS's Twilight Zine and he was a member of the Fanzine Review Board and of Apaloosa.
In 1970 he moved to Washington, DC and eventually drifted away from fandom to become one of the top-rated crossword puzzle solvers in the United States, wining six national titles. He was known as the "Iceman" because he never got flustered in contests, but just worked his way methodically to victory. He is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for being the oldest American Crossword Puzzle Tournament winner.
