A fan who is a filker. He is married to fellow filker Sally Childs-Helton. He is a member of The Black Book Band and Wild Mercy.
Barry is notable for having introduced rock styles into filk music. (At over 6 feet 6 inches tall, he's notable just by walking into a room.) He often leads the closing jam at OVFF.
His acceptance speech at the 2003 Filk Hall of Fame ceremony, along with Sally's, is well remembered for its observations on filk as a folk culture.
