The Feminine Fan
The Feminine Fan was a (possibly only proposed) American fanzine of around 1940. An advertisement in Fantasy News #71 (October 1939) announced that the title would be produced by the Queens SFL 'girls' and would be 'the East-coast only "ALL GIRL" stf fan magazine'. The editors were Rose Alberti and Millie Taurasi with stencils by Frances Sykora mimeographed by Frances Alberti. 'All material in the magazine is by girl fans only'. It was to appear 'within 3 weeks', priced 10c, from Taurasi's address.
The 'three weeks' was clearly optimistic as a further notice appeared in Fantasy News #85 (February 1940) announcing that the The Feminine Fan, 'a Pink Ribbon Publication', was 'now going to press'. It was once again stressed that 'This mag will be UNIQUE in that every stitch of work on it has been done by girls only including stencil typing and mimeograph work.'
If The Feminine Fan did indeed appear then it likely predates STF-ETTE by a few months and qualifies as the first all-female fanzine. However, Sam Moskowitz believed that STF-ETTE (published in September 1940) was the first and The Feminine Fan is not listed in the Evans-Pavlat Fanzine Index.
