Richard W. Dodson was a fan and chemist who had a large correspondence with E. E. Smith (a fellow chemist) and other fans and pros in the 1930s and ’40s,
Besides Smith, he corresponded with other pros (e.g., A. Merritt and Clark Ashton Smith) and with fans such as Allen Glasser and Julius Schwartz. His correspondence is now at the University of Idaho.
Being distinctly older than most fans, he did not have much direct involvement with New York fandom.
He got his Ph.D. at Johns Hopkins, worked on the Manhattan Project and was a professor at Columbia.
