(???? – )

Martin Helsdon is a UK fan and fan artist from Chelmsford active in the 1970s and 1980s and to a degree later. He contributed a number of covers and interiors to John D. Owen's Crystal Ship between 1978 and 1989 with a folio in #5 (February 1982). Other work appeared in Arena SF and Ghosts and Scholars.

Helsdon's art had presumably appeared elsewhere before his first appearance in Crystal Ship, a cover on #3 (1978), as Owen refers to it as 'a customary excellent job'. Mary Gentle wrote in Crystal Ship #6 (August 1982), 'where did you get this man Helsdon? Triple Alpha! There are far too few zines with full page drawings' although Owen didn't answer the question. Gary Deindorfer said, in a letter to Small Friendly Dog #22 (ed: Paul Skelton April 1983), 'I must say that the Martin Helsdon art in CS5 is unbelievably good, much better than most prozine art', leading Skelton to reply, 'whose fanzine are we LoCing here?'

A Martin Helsdon appeared on the membership list for Loncon 3, the 2014 Worldcon. It seems likely that he is also the freelance games designer working for Chaosium since 2019.
