(July 30, 1911 -- July 22, 1992)

Reginald Bretnor (born Alfred Reginald Kahn) was a SF author and critic who flourished between the 1950s and 1980s. Most of his fiction was in short story form.

Under the pseudonym Grendel Briarton (an anagram of Reginald Bretnor), he published a series of over a hundred SF-themed shaggy-dog vignettes featuring the time-traveling hero Ferdinand Feghoot. They have been collected by Mirage Press. Additionally, his Papa Schimmelhorn story "The Gnurrs Come from the Voodvork Out" was responsible for a minor fannish catchphrase.

Some of his critical work was published by Advent.
