Mr McDermott was a fan from Blackley near Manchester, UK active in the 1950s. He was a member of the Nor'west Science Fantasy Club, joining in January 1953. Space Times #7 (also January 1953) does not give an initial or forename and compounds this by locating him in the non-existent 'Blakely'. Did this geographic slight stifle his nascent fannish career? Did he never receive his copies of Space Times while a puzzled postman stomped through Manchester 9 in search of 'Blakely'? Or, and in deference to the Space Times typist, was perhaps Mr McDermott's handwriting not of the best? Was his name even McDermott?
