(???? –)

Sydney[1] A. Beach was a UK fan from Aberystwyth in Wales active in the 1940s. He was a member of the British Fantasy Society.

He produced the single-issue fanzine Yoshiwara Supplement with Robert J. Silburn as a rider for Futurian War Digest and two issues of Lens, the first with Silburn and the second alone.

Gus Willmorth described meeting Beach in Fan Slants #2:

I finally arrived in Aberystwyth only an hour late and was greeted at the platform by Sydney Beach and Bob Silburn. Syd is six-one and Bob is even taller – I felt slightly outnumbered. Greetings were exchanged and we slipped away to the Beach residence where I was shown to some water and given HAM AND EGGS for breakfast. ... Both Beach and Silburn are English, understanding very little Welsh[2].

He is listed in the Directory of Anglo-Fandom of 1945 but not in later directories.

Person ????
This is a biography page. Please extend it by adding more information about the person, such as fanzines and apazines published, awards, clubs, conventions worked on, GoHships, impact on fandom, external links, anecdotes, etc. See Standards for People and The Naming of Names.

  1. His name is given variously as Syd or Sid.
  2. Rob Hansen, himself Welsh, has views about Willmorth's characterisation of 'English' and 'Welsh' here. Suffice to say, not speaking Welsh does not make the speaker English.
