Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser are two antiheroes created by Fritz Leiber and Harry Otto Fischer for a series of fantasy stories, beginning with "Two Sought Adventure," published in the August 1939 issue of Unknown.
Fafhrd is a mighty-thewed barbarian and the Mouser a former wizard’s apprentice turned thief. The “Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser” series is the quintessential Sword & Sorcery.
They are the protagonists of Leiber's best-known stories. One of his motives in writing them was to have fantasy heroes closer to true human nature than previous fictional heroic characters.
