Bill "The Galactic" Fesselmeyer served on the bid committee and concom of MidAmeriCon, the 1976 Worldcon in Kansas City. WSFS business meeting wrangling at the time inspired him to pen “How the GRINCH Stole Worldcon,” a classic piece of smoffish faan fiction about the demise of fandom via the GRand Island, Nebraska, CHonvention, told from a far-future perspective.

It first appeared in MidAmeriCon’s second progress report (1975, online here), and has been reprinted in Spirits of Things Past 3 (2001, online here) and the first PR for MidAmeriCon 2 (2015, online here).
