Dave Newman a Liverpool fan, served on convention committees in the 1950s. He belonged to the Liverpool Group and ran unsuccessfully for TAFF in 1958. He produced the fanzines Operation Splash and Prodigal.
Newman did not attend the Brumcon of 1959 but instead sent letters to the BSFA committee detailing various personal misfortunes since he'd relocated from Liverpool to Bournemouth, causing him to drop out of fandom[1].
