Wincon I (which was also Unicon 9) was a convention August 19-21, 1988, at King Alfred's College in Winchester, UK. The GoHs were Patrick Tilley and Geoff Ryman. Tilley fled from the convention on the Saturday, leaving only a note: "Have found a portal to another universe, am climbing down there using my shoelaces."
