At Tropicon II, [[Edie Stern|Edie Stern]] introduced a new-to-conventions format for the trivia contest. Adapted from a weekly event at a bar near East Lansing, Michigan, the trivia contest was for everyone, not just a few that had signed up in advance. Here, the trivia master asked the question and whoever could answer correctly first (and be heard, which generally meant they were the loudest) received a token.  The tokens were wooden nickels with the convention logo, and were each good for 10 cents in the dealer room. The trivia contest was later adopted by [[Mark Olson|Mark Olson]] for  [[Boskone|Boskone]], and chocolates were thrown to the respondents rather than wooden nickels.
