(???? – )

Dave Womack was a fan from Hornchurch, UK active in the early 1970s. He attended Sci-Con, the 1970 Eastercon, where Peter Roberts recalled 'meeting with youthful comic-fan, Dave Womack (clutching a brief-case, later discovered to be full of old Zeniths and Fantasy Commentators – destiny unknown)'[1]. Steve Moore attended the second UK comic convention where 'I also remember shouting at a young kid called Dave Womack, who was making a rather loud nuisance of himself throughout the weekend'[2].

Womack is likely best remembered in our fandom for a review by Greg Pickersgill of the single-issue fanzine, Viridiana. Outside the scope of Fancyclopedia, he also published a comic fanzine, Utopia, bound back-to-back with a comics adzine, Valhalla by Paul McCartney. His greater claim to fame is thus that he is currently believed to be the first person to publish work by Alan Moore[3]. A copy of Utopia/Valhalla sold for $5,100 in 2014, making it reportedly the most expensive fanzine ever sold.
