An Austin-area con-running fan, Karen Meschke was a member of San Antonio in '97 Worldcon bid committee and chaired LoneStarCon 2, the 1997 Worldcon in San Antonio, TX. She is a member of FACT and ALAMO and has worked on numerous conventions. She chaired Smofcon 27 in 2009 and ArmadilloCon 10 and ArmadilloCon 11 in 1988 and ’89.

She was married, for a time, to Fred Duarte. They had one son, Matthew.
