Lionel Blue was a teenaged London fan active in the late 1940s, attending London Circle meetings at the White Horse tavern[1].
He was ordained a Reform rabbi in 1960, and became a broadcaster, described by The Guardian as 'one of the most respected religious figures in the UK.' In his longstanding work in the media, he was known for his wry sense of humour, often expressed on 'Thought for the Day' on BBC Radio 4's Today programme. He was the first British rabbi publicly to declare his homosexuality, in 1980.
In 1994, he was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire.
