Leslie V. Heald (generally using just initials) was a fan from Liverpool, or actually the separate though conurbated town of Litherland a few miles north. He also wrote as Charnock Walsby, with published stories from 1939 to 1952, switching to his own name in 1946. He was a member of the Science Fiction Association (SFA), joining in January 1939.
He published newszines in 1939/40 with Ron Holmes and originally others.
Science-Fantasy Review's War Digest changed its editorial address from Heald's to Holmes's (Rockfield Road) starting with #4 (April 1940) without a clear explanation or any mention of Heald. Issue #8 (August 1940) said "L.V. Heald is now in the L.D.V.s" (i. e. Local Defence Volunteers, renamed Home Guard in late July).
The January 1945 Directory of Anglofandom (which misspelled Heald's address as Healey Avenue instead of Henley) lists him as "not in touch" (and not in the armed forces, though this may be just due to the loss of communication).
