Fanarkle is a sort of beardmuttered scientificombination of “fan article” — i.e. a piece of fanwriting. We’ve tracked down the term’s use to Dave Locke in 1981, “Notes for a Fanarkle” in Energumen 16, but we’re sure that’s far from its earliest appearance, and we don’t know whether Locke coined it.
