The Robert A. Heinlein Award was established by the Heinlein Society in 2003 "for outstanding published works in science fiction and technical writings to inspire the human exploration of space."
It is named for the award-winning SF author Robert A. Heinlein and is administered by the Baltimore Science Fiction Society which manages the award. The award is a sterling silver medallion with the image of Heinlein by artist Arlin Robins. The award is funded by The Heinlein Society and the Estate Yoji Kondo (a long-time friend of the Heinleins.)
The Award's selection committee consists of science fiction writers and was founded by Kondo. The current Chairman of the Selection Committee is Michael F. Flynn. The award is generally given annually to one or more recipients.
