The Woolwich Science Fiction and Vargo Statten Appreciation Society was a 'not-terribly serious group' (Rob Hansen, Then) in the early 1950s consisting of Daphne Buckmaster, Ron Buckmaster and Bob Shaw. The Buckmasters lived in married quarters at the barracks and Shaw was at the time working in the area. Woolwich is an area of greater London on the River Thames, about eleven miles from the city centre.
