Jean Thompson, a Scottish fan, first found out about organised fandom in 1974, and attended her first convention, Terracon '77, in 1977. She has managed attendance in one shape or form at a convention every year since.

A member of the Saltcoats Space Oddity Society or SOS, she also attended Glasgow's Friends of Kilgore Trout. Moving to London meant that she regularly attended the London Circle (also known as The Tun)  and was also involved in Walthamstow's monthly SF fan gathering.
