Charles Franklin Derry, known as Chick to SF fandom, was born in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, and lived most of his life in Wildercroft, Maryland. He was a founding member of the Washington Science Fiction Association (WSFA) and the Potomac River Science Fiction Society, and was one of the Elders.
He was by profession an office machinery technician and kept ditto machines, mimeographs and photo-offset systems running for local fanzine fans.
He was a veteran of World War II.
