The Mythopoeic Society was founded in the late 1960s by Glen Goodknight and is an international organization promoting the study, discussion, and enjoyment of fantastic and mythopoeic literature through books and periodicals, annual conferences, discussion groups, and awards. It sponsors Mythcon and has had the clubzines Mythprint, Mythlore, and Mythril.

The Society is especially interested in the works of J. R. R. Tolkien, C. S. Lewis, and Charles Williams, prominent members of the informal Oxford literary circle known as the "Inklings."

The Society was born during the first major flurry of interest in J. R. R. Tolkien, the mid-1960s boom encouraged by the publication of U. S. editions of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Many Tolkien societies were founded at that time, but most of them died off during the next few years.

The Society has presented the annual Mythopoeic Awards since 1983, for English-language fantasy literature and scholarship. The Mythic Circle is its creative writing journal devoted to fantasy-inspired works; it has been published by the Mythopoeic Society since 1987.

In addition, it has a special interest group: The Elvish Linguistic Fellowship.

Club Website
This is a club page. Please extend it by adding information about when and where the club met, when and by whom it was founded, how long it was active, notable accomplishments, well-known members, clubzines, any conventions it ran, external links to the club's website, other club pages, etc.

When there's a floreat (Fl.), this indicates the time or times for which we have found evidence that the club existed. This is probably not going to represent the club's full lifetime, so please update it if you can!
