Ob

(Did you mean the Lynn Hickman fanzine?)

Ob, archaic term, is short for "obligation." It came into fannish usage from Eric Frank Russell's 1951 sf classic, "And Then There Were None". Fans used it enough to adopt it as a term of their own, but it's not heard much anymore, although it's also a net term.

See also MYOB, Avoidism.

From Fancyclopedia 2, ca. 1959
(E. F. Russell) Obligation. The Gands recognized no debts, only obs to one another (cf Avoidism).
