Mike Crewdson
(???? – )
Mike Crewdson was a British fan from Morecambe in Lancashire active in the 1950s. He was listed as a member of the Junior Fanatics in Periscope 2 in October 1952[1]. Writing in Void 1, Dave Wood said Crewdson was a school acquaintance of Ken Potter who had "picked up a Vargo Statten addict at school. Gave him Bradbury's Martian Chronicles to read and hey-presto, a new member."
In Peri 1 (January 1953) Potter said Crewdson:
... is a Junior Fanatic, who produces Britain's only handwritten fanzine, Solar. Since competition in the way of Stellar and Centaurus has been removed Mike now has a clear path, and he is making good use of it.
Potter later explained that Solar was not only handwritten but single-copy so it's unsurprising that it has escaped earlier bibliographers and we will likely never learn any more about it. Potter also went on to disprove his own contention by then citing another single-copy fanzine called Space. This had been produced at Crewdson's instigation and he even provided the cover, although:
Mike is pretty keen, and becoming increasingly keener, but the plain unvarnished truth is that he is not artistically bent. If my artistic talents were raised to that of Ed Cartier, and his raised in proportion, he'd be around as good as I am now.
As Potter didn't name the editor of Space and claimed to be unable to remember his address we know even less about it than our scant knowledge of Crewdson's Solar.

- ↑ His name is given there as Crewdsown although elsewhere it's given as Crewdson which also seems the more plausible name.
