Jules Lazar
(June 9, 1927 – November 15, 2014)
Jules Louis Lazar, a fan from Boston, moved to L.A. and joined LASFS and The Outsiders, but resigned from both. He wrote a scandalous letter about a LASFS feud in Fantasy Fiction Field 165 (March 11, 1944).[1] Of himself, he wrote in Rogues Gallery:
LAZAR, JULES L., born June 9, 1927, 5’ 11", 140 lbs., hair and eyes brown. First read stf in 1939; first contact with fandom was the result of a letter to RAP. Joined Stranger Club in June of 1941, and is now Sec-Treas-Librarian. Attended Boskone II. Assoc. Editor of Ceres and of Rogue's Gallery. Favorite authors; Taine, Keller, and Weinbaum; favorite promag; FFM.

Another arrival on the December 1943 scene was Jules Lazar, a hefty young Jewish boy from Boston and the Strangers' Club. He was tall, heavily built, and strong as a bull. He did not fit very well into the club, being prone to take offense where none was intended, and through being essentially uninterested in fandom, yet just enough intorverted so that he found difficulty in staying away from the easy associations of the club. I always rather liked Jules until his tendency to shove people around after a couple of drinks became too pronounced. Since he was only 16 or 17 at the time he was in LA, I have little doubt but what he has grown into a pretty nice fellow. Certainly there was room for improvement.
Jules arrived in 1943 in Los Angeles, where his divorced father lived. After the feuds with organized fandom, he gafiated and enlisted in the Navy on February 26, 1946, serving aboard the Arayat. When he got out, he moved back to Boston and then in the 1950s to New York. Although his interest in science fiction had waned, he remained a voracious reader for the rest of his life. He also enjoyed golf and cooking, becoming "an incredible chef" in the last 30 years of his life.[2]

- 1952, in Boston, to Jeanette Barnard[2]
- 1968, in Manhattan, to Gerda Pastor
- 1986, in Teaneck, New Jersey, to Gloria Barry
He was married to Gloria when he passed away.
