Many sf authors have picked up on the popularity of C. S. Forester's Horatio Hornblower series of 18th-century naval books. Gene Roddenberry said he used it for Star Trek; David Feintuch, Bertram Chandler, David Weber, Harry Harrison have all done it, Weber in particular distorting his science so the navies still engage with broadsides.
Walter Jon Williams, who started his career with Napoleonic fiction, seems to have resisted.
