Glamdring

The common name (after Gandalf's sword) of two somewhat differing fanzines listing other fanzines edited by Bruce Pelz. As he wrote in "Introduction to Glamdring" (Ankus 21), the first were "three issues of a fanzine-review zine back in 1960".

"Late last year, in a small and probably not too viable APA called STOBCLER, I got onto the subject of checklists of fanzines produced each year" and "the easiest way to index them". "There was only one person I could possibly con into doing such a job: me. So when January 1968 rolled around, I started keeping a list of the zines that arrived — including APA mailings […]" and "dragged out of retirement" the earlier title.

"[W]hen the January list was completed, GLAMDRING 4 was put together"; thus each issue is dated retroactively, for the month when listed fanzines arrived – so, especially for APAs, the February issue contains some fanzines dated January etc.; many Glamdrings weren't explicitly dated but just said "received during the month of …". Pelz noted that "the zine is of value only to a collector, and there don’t seem to be too many collectors of fanzines these days", there was little response, so his prediction "If I were doing this for anyone but myself and a few other fanatic collectors, I'd probably quit" fulfilled itself fast.
