Dave Elder

(June 18, 1926-January 16, 1987)

David H. Elder was born in Ohio in 1926, but by 1930, his parents had settled in Pittsburgh. At 16, he'd already found fandom and was a member of the Western Pennsylvania Science Fictioneers. At 17 he married Marie Cooley and at 18, he was drafted and served two years in the military.

By 1942, he started attending science fiction conventions and would bring an autograph album along. He collected autographs of dozens of fans and pros as well as cartoons and photographs.

After he completed military service, he returned to Pittsburgh where he worked as a salesman. Dave attended a number of Worldcons, including Pittcon in 1960. He stopped attending cons in the 1980s and died in 1987.
