Basil Wells
(June 11, 1912 – December 23, 2003)
Basil Eugene Wells was a Pennsylvania SF writer. His first published story, "Rebirth of Man," appeared in the prozine Super Science Stories (September, 1940).
He was a member of the Western Pennsylvania Science Fictioneers, the ISFCC and Vanguard, and wrote for fanzines such as The Explorer, JD-Argassy and Fantastic Worlds.
He married fellow WPSF member Margaret Hughes in 1945 and they had two sons. They attended Cinvention in 1949, Midwestcon 2 in 1951 and others. They later retired to Florida.
In addition to SF, Wells wrote fantasy, western, and detective stories for various magazines, sometimes under the pseudonym of Gene Ellerman. Two collections of his SF stories, Planets of Adventure (1949) and Doorways to Space (1951), were published by Fantasy Publishing Company, Inc.
