Site selection for the 1979 Worldcon was conducted by SunCon, the 1977 Worldcon. The bidders were Britain in '79 and New Orleans in '79. Britain won and went on to run Seacon '79.
There were 884 votes cast. SunCon did not release actual vote counts, but Britain in '79 "overwhelmingly defeated" New Orleans in '79 and the WSFS Business meeting voted to make the result unanimous.
This was a busy year for bids, though only two of actually appeared on the ballot:
- Britain in '79 (on the ballot)
- New Orleans in '79 (on the ballot)
- Chicago in '79
- Nashville in '79 (hoax bid that became real, then fizzled)
