The 1955 Best Novel Hugo was presented September 4 at the Clevention. This second year of the Hugos there was again no shortlist of nominees. The winner was chosen by a vote of the members.
Winner: They'd Rather Be Right by Mark Clifton and Frank Riley (Astounding Aug,Sep,Oct,Nov 1954)
According to Fred Patten (who got the voting records from Howard DeVore) there were 52 votes cast scattered over 25 novels. They'd Rather Be Right got 10 votes, beating second place finisher Hell's Pavement by Damon Knight 10-7. Two other novels got 4 votes each , and the 5th place finisher was Gladiator-at-Law with 3.
