James Mark Anderson was a public hoax fan (is there such a thing?) dreamt up by Mike Saler and Richard Harter. At the time, to NESFAns and RISFAns, J. Mark Anderson would have been a clear reference to Mark Keller and Sue Anderson. (Both Harter and Saler were regular players in their musicals.)
The hoax/penname was used by Saler alone to edit Proper Boskonian and by Saler and Harter to write a variety of fannish articles. For example, “Anderson, Mark: My Words” in PB #22 was by Saler alone, while Harter dressed up as JMA and spoke, I believe, in favor of Concord at the contending Worldcon panel at Boskone {which Boskone?}. Keller spoke in favor of Providence, Saler of Concord, and George Flynn for Frisia.
