An initialism for Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dweller, from the 1984 sf/horror film C.H.U.D., now meaning an ugly, stupid person, a sense popularized by the 2006 comedy film Clerks II.

In the macrocosm, it’s an insult used by the political left for members of the alt-right. It isn’t intrinsically fannish but has been tossed into fanspeak through social media, especially in the Trump era.
