Universal Publishing and Distribution of New York, owned by Arnold Abramson and established in 1954, published IF magazine from 1969 to when it was folded into Galaxy in 1974.
Its Beacon Books imprint took over the Galaxy Science Fiction Novels series in the late 1950s. Galaxy Science Fiction Novels, sometimes titled Galaxy SF Novels, or simply Galaxy Novels, were a series of mostly reprint American SF novels published between 1950 and 1961.
The series was started by H. L. Gold, the editor of Galaxy Science Fiction, in 1950, as a companion to the main Galaxy magazine. There was one novel per issue, which appeared in digest size format, making the books in the series look like digest magazines.
