-A  [[London]]-based consulting detective prominent in the late 19th and early 20th century whose exploits were fictionalized by his close friend [[Dr. John H. Watson]].  Holmes would have been a [[fan]] if [[fandom]] had existed then and must be considered a proto-fan.  It seems likely he contributed to the [[letter columns]] of the [[prozines]] in the 1930s under an assumed name.
