A term attributed to John W. Campbell, Roget’s Disease is the ludicrous overuse of far-fetched adjectives, piled into a festering, odorous, tenebrous, ichorous, leprous, synonymic heap. It applies to both pro and fan writing.

Said-Bookism is one strain of the syndrome.

This is a fanspeak page. Please extend it by adding information about when and by whom it was coined, whether it’s still in use, etc.
