“He Who Must Not Be Named,” “Him Who is not to be Named, and similar avoidances appear in the Harry Potter series, the Lovecraft Mythos and other fiction as a way of referring to someone who cannot be mentioned for fear he will hear of it and appear, with evil consequences.
Such circumlocutions are also sometimes used for unpopular or powerful members of fan groups.
